Library (IRC) Manager
As Library / Information Resource Center Manager, Charles has been providing SSO's tenants with access to information resources and reference and research services for seven years. It is said that librarians do not know everything but that they know where to look; this idea, when coupled with the satisfaction of uniting users with information in such a way that enhances and enriches both individuals and their organizations, expresses Charles' work philosophy.
Prior to his tenure with SSO, Charles was employed by the Federal government, from which he retired in 2007. During that time, he worked as a librarian and information specialist/officer for the Departments of Army, Defense, Commerce, U.S. Corps of Engineers, and Veterans Affairs. While working for the government, Charles was able to live in a variety of locales, including Hawaii, San Francisco, New Orleans, and Minneapolis-St. Paul. Originally, he is from the Chicago area, having been born in Oak Park and growing up on a farm some 60 miles northwest of the city. He holds the B.A. in English from Loras College in Dubuque, IA; the M.A. in English from the University of Iowa in Iowa City; and the Master's in Library Science (M.L.S.) from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He is an avid cyclist and beekeeper, as well as a decent cook. Six rescue dogs make their home with him and his spouse.
