The Office of the Comptroller (OC) of the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Office of Justice Programs (OJP) is sponsoring a series of 30 financial management training seminars across the country. These Regional Financial Management Training Seminars are being held in cooperation with the National Criminal Justice Association (NCJA).  A series of eleven financial management training seminars across the county will be offered from February through December 2001.

When:

All seminars are two-days in length, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 4:00 p.m. each day.

Who Should Attend:

These Regional Financial Management Training Seminars are designed specifically for persons responsible for the financial administration of formula and/or discretionary grants awarded from Federal grant-in-aid programs administered by the Bureaus and Offices of OJP and DOJ including the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Bureau of Justice Statistics, National Institute of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, Office for Victims of Crime and the Crime Act Offices of Corrections, Drug Courts, Weed and Seed, and Violence Against Women; and the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services Office (COPS).

Seminar Curriculum:

Seminars will cover the formula/discretionary grants awarded by OJP/DOJ program offices.

Knowledgeable and experienced OC Officials will introduce seminar topics, serve as primary seminar presenters, and facilitate seminar discussion. Topics to be covered during the financial management training seminars include the application review process, grantee financial reporting requirements, methods of payments, matching requirements, indirect costs, confidential funds, closeout process, and monitoring responsibility, as well as the Federal regulations and requirements governing the recording and expenditure of program income, procurement, lobbying, compliance with drug-free workplace requirements, and audits.

Cost:

Funding for the Regional Financial Management Training Seminars was obtained from the OJP. Seminar attendees will be responsible for all costs associated with their participation in the seminar, including transportation, lodging, and meals. There is no seminar registration fee.

Seminar Attire:

         The seminar format will be informal and participants are invited to dress casually.

Accommodations:

A block of rooms has been reserved at each of the seminar hotel sites indicated below. Those attendees presenting government identification may be exempt from some of the taxes. Check with the hotel when you make your reservation. The room rate is effective through the cut-off date only.  Remember to register early at http://www.sso.org/ncja.

In general, hotel check-in time is late afternoon and check-out time is noon. Individuals who arrive before check-in time will be checked in as soon as rooms become available. Individuals who will be staying at the hotel past the check-out time may bring their baggage to the meeting room or check it with the hotel bell service.

Seminar participants will be responsible for arranging their own transportation.

To facilitate as much exchange between presenters and participants as possible, the OC plans to limit attendance at each seminar. You, therefore, will want to register at your earliest convenience.
